The murder of Lois duncans daughter.
Question: I would rather talk to the cop who investigated the case?

Asked on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 07:30:29 PM
Reply: We liked Steve Gallegos, the detective in charge of the case, and if he was permitted to do so, we believe he would have solved the case. But he was blocked at every turn. The first officers at the scene withheld information from him; he was provided with inaccurate scene reports; he was not allowed to investigate certain suspects; and somebody over him departmentalized the investigation so he was deprived of crucial information.

If anyone has that information, please, send it to us by private e-mail or mail it to us at PO Box 27187, Albq. NM 87125. Don't post it on this message board.

a potential circle?
Question: After reading the latest posts, I summarized the information into to this list:

1. Dung worked for the Cecchinis.
2. Sharon knew the Cecchinis socially and worked outside Pier One, where Kait was employed.
3. Kait & Sharon meet on her break.
4. Kait & Dung are promoted to managerial positions at about the same time.

This led me to more questions:

Do you know if Kait was introduced to the Cecchinis by Sharon or Dung?
Were Dung & Sharon acquainted previously? (I think I asked this once)

When the management at Pier One changed, who took over from the old management? And did that new management know the Cecchinis? It would be interesting if someone could make that connection.

(apologies for any spelling errors)

Reply: One correction to the comments above: It's true that, two months before her murder, Kait was promoted to a managerial position at Pier One Imports. And, at exactly that same time, Dung was hired at Artwear to work for the Cecchinis. And, at that same time, Sharon Smith set up a snowcone business outside Pier One Imports at Fair Plaza and met Kait that way.

However, Dung was NOT in a managerial position. When I asked him what he did at Artwear, he told me he packed T-shirts in boxes for shipping. Kait told us, "His boss just loves him! She's already given him two raises in three weeks!"

Kait's position at Pier One also involved receiving imported clothing and shipping back returns.

One week after Kait's death, Sharon Smith applied for a job at Pier One, telling the manager she was Kait's good friend and was in dire need of money. He says he hired herfor that reason. She also got her boyfriend, Ray Bowes, a job there as "a receiver of merchandise," who unpacked boxes of imported merchandise. (Ray Bowes has since been incarcerated.) The two worked at Pier One approximately ten days and then abruptly left without even picking up their paychecks.

As for your additional questions:

1. We don't know if Kait was introduced to the Cecchinis.

2. We know that Sharon and Dung were acquainted through Kait, but not if they knew each other previously. We have wondered whether Sharon, as a friend of both Kait and the Cecchinis, may have been instrumental in getting Dung hired there, but we don't know the answer to that question.

3. Kait's original manager at Pier One was Renae Bunn. Kait was made clothing manager in May 89 after Renae Bunn was allegedly fired. Kait was given her position. We would like it very much if Renae Bunn or people who know her would contact us by private e-mail. The new store manager was Dowyle Cawthon.

3. We have no idea if either manager knew the Cecchinis.

Tally Keeper
Question: When was the tally Keeper released?

Asked on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 02:31:15 PM
Reply: The Tally Keeper hasn't been released. Because we're continually receiving new information that keeps providing material for each new chapter that I add to the ever-growing manuscript. We're hoping this influx of information will keep building the momentum that will take us to the final resolution.

I believe with all my heart that this will happen. That will be the ending of the book.

If there's anyone out there who can help us do this, please, contact us by personal e-mail. Your identity will never be revealed. I promise you that, on Kait's name.

Pier One Imports
Question: How long did Kait work at Pier One Imports and what did she do there?

Asked on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 12:54:25 PM
Reply: Kait worked at Pier One as an after school job throughout part of her senior year of high school, and she loved it. She did routine things, like running the register and putting merchandise on counters. Then, at about the point when Dung got hired by Artwear, there was a change in management at Pier One, and Kait was suddenly promoted to clothing manager. We thought that was a surprising promotion for a teenager, but Kait was very proud of her new business cards, and we were too.

But the question you're raising is one we've never really thought about. Dung's job at Artwear had him shipping and receiving boxes of merchandise to and from the Orient. Kait's new position, as clothing manager at Pier One, had her doing exactly the same thing. Shortly before her death, she told us she disliked the new manager and was no longer comfortable working there, even though she was proud of her new position.

Is it possible there was something in those boxes other than legitimate merchancise? Why did Dung get so many raises so quickly? Maybe you're onto something. But what?

Question: How long did Dung work for the Cecchinis at Artwear? What was his position there? How did he get the job?

Asked on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 07:33:21 AM
Reply: That was an odd situation. Dung had been out of work for over a year, (we never could figure out what he was living on). Then Kait, who worked at Pier One Imports, got her own apartment and told Dung he couldn't move in with her unless he got a job. He immediately got one at Artwear.

Kait told us, "They just love him there! He's received two raises in three weeks!" When I asked Dung what he did there, he said he packed T-shirts in boxes to be shipped out of the country.

We don't know how he got that job. However, we do know that Sharon Smith, the new friend that Kait spent her final evening with, knew the Cecchinis socially long before she knew Kait.

Question: I found out Micheal Cecchini and Roxanne Cecchini divorced in 2003.

Also I know about how interesting it was when it came to light that Judge John Brennan was using drugs, but what about Judge Barbara Brown?

I was wondering that since Albuquerque has a new police chief, what about putting pressure on him regarding this case?

Asked on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 03:14:36 PM
Reply: We've discovered, the hard way, that police chiefs are nothing more than figureheads. If you complain about an investigation to a police chief, he forwards the complaint to the very people you were complaining about. That's the way he washes his hands of it.

Kait and rod
Question: Hi Lois, first i want to say i am a huge fan of your books i recently came across "who killed my daughter" and read it. I read the post you left in the message board about Rod being the one leaving flowers at Kaits grave, i was just wondering was that physic right about rod and Kait seeing each other again? was he the one that was with her the night she was killed? if so do you think Dung knew about this?

Asked on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 02:04:04 AM
Reply: The psychic reading on Rod said that he loved Kait and missed her terribly. It said he felt guilty because he had not realized how much danger she was in and did nothing to protect her.>P>We don't know whether or not Dung knew about Rod.

Micheal and Roxanne Cecchini
Question: Were Dung's employers at Artwear, Michael and Roxanne Cecchini, involved in other business enterprises besides the one with the chicago gangster Nick LoBue? If so, does anybody know what they were? Or are, if those people are still in New Mexico? Does Dung still associate with them?

I have enjoyed Lois's books since i was a pre-teen, but none touched me as Who Killed My Daughter did. I look forward to he sequel and wish you the best of luck in solving this tragic case and bringing Kait's killer(s) to justice. Is there a projected date which the sequel will be published? Thank you

Nick LoBue
Question: Do your think there is a connection between Nick LoBue and Noah Robinson? It seems to me they committed the same crimes. Also, do you know if Noah is still in prison?

Asked on Friday, August 12, 2005 at 03:06:25 PM
Reply: We don't know of any direct connection between Nick LoBue and Noah Robinson. We just know that, at the time Kait was murdered, both were involved in organized crime in Chicago and both were dividing their time between Chcago and Albuquerque.

As far as we know, Noah Robinson is still in prison. His half-brother, Jesse Jackson, tried to get him released, but failed. It's possible, though, that he tried again and succeeded, though if that's the case, we haven't heard about it.

Question: I was wondering if you had heard that APD now has a new police chief (Chief Schultz) and that he is cleaning out the evidence room (due to all of the bad press). Have you ever been able to get your daughter's things?

Asked on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 07:44:24 PM
Reply: No, after over 15 years, we still can't get APD to return the items from Kait's desk because they are "evidence." Yet they continue to insist she was the victim of a "random drive-by shooting" and will investigate no other possibility.

responding to question about Nick LoBue
Question: Nick LoBue is a former finance commissioner from Chicago. He was charged with 10 counts of racketeering, conspiracy and tax fraud. In 1991 he pled guilty of extortion, but he turned states evidence against his buddies, and after a short stint in prison the feds relocated him to Rio Rancho. Heís under federal protection. I donít know what heís doing now, but in 2000 he was general manager for the N.M. Scorpions.

If Dungís employer. Michael Cecchini, was LoBueís business partner, it brings up all kinds of possibilities. Ms. Duncan, did you mention LoBue or Cecchini in your book?

Asked on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 10:43:29 AM
Reply: There's nothing about Nick LoBue in WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER?. At the time I wrote that book I'd never even heard of him.

Michael Cecchini and his wife, Roxanne Cecchini, are mentioned in my book, but not by name, only as Dung's employers. Roxanne was apparently very attached to Dung. If you refer to the paperback copy of my book, pg. 90, where it says he had his boss drive him over to our house to collect his things, that boss was Roxanne Cecchini.

Question: I thought Dung was dead? Last I read, he was up in Tacoma Washington.

Asked on Tuesday, August 09, 2005 at 02:01:45 PM
Reply: If he's dead, that's news to us. When my book came out, he went to the Tacoma area, but after the dust cleared he returned to Albuquerque with a pregnant girlfriend. As far as I know they're still there, but I could be mistaken.

NM Entertainment Concepts, Nick LoBue
Question: These names are not listed in the city directory for Albuquerque. Neither is the name Michael Cecchini. Probably long gone.

Asked on Tuesday, August 09, 2005 at 02:00:32 PM
Reply: Itís possible they have unlisted numbers. Nick LoBue and Michael Cecchini, (along with business partners Les Hermon and Robert Sahd) also had a company called "Blades New Mexico" Supposedly, it is/was a real estate management company.

Nick LoBue?
Question: Does the name Nick LoBue mean anything to you or to other readers of this message board?

Asked on Monday, August 08, 2005 at 11:21:40 AM
Reply: Nick LoBue was president of NM Entertainment Concepts, an ice skating rink in Rio Rancho. We only know about him because he was in business with Michael Cecchini, who owned Artwear, the silk screen shop where Dung worked. Michael Cecchini was also the director of Mr. LoBue's entertainment business.

Why do you ask?

Question: I honestly thought my heart was going to break reading "Who Killed My Daughter" I started reading it on the evening on of 16th July this year. Its so hard to believe that the APD have dealt with this so badly. Having just read what happened to Robin's photo of Kait some years back I have no doubt in my mind that Kait will help you to get to the bottom on this. My thoughts are with and thank you so much for sharing your story with us [Kerry Bucks,UK]
