Question: The point I was making below: The idea that Kait was a federal informant for either FBI or DEA would explain what happened to Kait, how it happened, when it happened, and why she was at some point traveling with a person you cannot identify.

Is there any other explanation that accounts for all the facts, including why Sharon and her friends were hired, EVEN THOUGH Kait admired the new manager.

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 05:25:57 PM
Reply: It's one of the best explanations so far.

Question: RE: the idea that Kait was involved with the feds: One lone kid going to the corrupt Albuquerque police--why would anyone be afraid? Why would she be killed, when she might just as easily be the victim of an "accident" in the company of Dung? Or when she might be threatened, or someone like Dung killed as an example to her? (Remember, Dung's death, or the death of one of the other's involved, would not have raised as many eyebrows as the murder of a very young woman who is the daughter of a well-known writer.) It also explains why they would have sent a real assassin to shoot her in the street instead of just having low-level thugs kill her more quietly. (I am thinking here of earlier posts on the board that speculate that a trained police officer or someone with similar training stopped Kait’s car and shot her).

Now here''s the kicker. If she had been recruited as a snitch, it might explain who was with her, the person she met at the mall that turned out to be Rod. FBI or DEA undercover. Maybe that guy was recognized. Or maybe the criminals knew there had to be a snitch and when Kait turned up at the wrong place, they figured they knew who it was. So Kait had to die. It would be interesting to know if an FBI or DEA agent was found dead, went missing, or was assassinated around the time of or closely after Kait’s murder. And maybe the "good man" who knows the answers is a federal agent. For the first time, for me, things start to add up. This also explains why Kait's spirit cried out, "They won't silence me!"

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 05:23:01 PM
Reply: You're right. A picture does seem to be forming.

On Friday evening, Kait and Rod went to an early movie -- "Peter Pan." Then Kait told Rod she had to split because she "had an appointment." Who she would be meeting with at about 9 p.m. on a Friday evening has always been a mystery to us. Then, two days later, she was murdered. Your speculation that she might have been spotted meeting with an FBI or DEA agent is a valid possibility.

Pier One

Question: If Pier One was being used for drug trafficking, I wonder why they still operate here in Albuquerque? One reason could be, that law enforcement officials are in cahoots with the Pier One people. Both of their stores here in Albuquerque have really moved up to a much more upscale merchandise place, than it used to be back in the 70's and 80's.

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 03:14:37 PM
Reply: The Pier One chain would not have been involved in smuggling. If smuggling was, indeed, taking place, it would, most likely, have involved particular individuals at a particular store. Once those individuals were gone, the smuggling would have stopped.

From a reading by psychic Betty Muench: “Pier One itself was not suspect, but there will have been those employed there. Kaitlyn thought she had some allies, but indeed they all bolted on her when she needed them the most.”

Interesting time line

Question: Kait’s co-worker at Pier One finds heroin in box of fans.

That co-worker reports her find to the FBI.

Renae Bunn, manager of Pier One, is fired (why?) and replaced by someone from the main office.

Kait is murdered, so Dung and his friends no longer have an excuse to hang out at Pier One.

Sharon and her boyfriend immediately apply for jobs there.

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:13:21 AM
Reply: This is a thought provoking post.

To answer your question about why Renae Bunn was fired, allegedly it was for not "keeping the story up to merchandising standards." However, everyone we've talked with who worked there has told us Renae was a perfectionist and the store was very well run. No one believes she was fired for that reason.

So -- following your line of thinking -- why would she be fired for a bogus reason immediately after one of her employees contacts the FBI about finding heroin in the merchandise?

Assuming the FBI contacted Pier One Headquarters, might that have led to the firing of the manager? If so, why?

A few possibilities that occur to me:

1. They suspected the manager of being involved in the interception of the heroin.

2. They did not suspect her personally, but wanted her out of the way so they could replace her with someone from Pier One Headquarters to keep an eye on what was happening at that store.

3. By stating that the manager was not "keeping the store up to merchandising standards," they meant she was doing nothing to prevent the Vietnamese group from hanging out there and having access to the store room and loading dock.

But, if that last was the case, why wasn't KAIT fired? She was the alleged reason those guys were always there. Yet, she remained in her position as the person in charge of imported clothing. She also, in comments to us, expressed her respect for the new manager, Doyle Cawthon. Is it possible the feds were using Kait as a "snitch," to report to them, via Cawthon? If that was the case, it could certainly have led to her death. That's what happens to snitches. And it would explain why the FBI has refused to follow up on any information we've given them or to help us in any way. If Kait was their "snitch," they were responsible for her death.

I'm rambling, I know. Please, consider this brainstorming. The person who posted this message launched me on a new line of thought about previously unconsidered possibilities.

more and more crime

Question: The question of pornography is an interesting one, considering that the Arquettes began unravelling this tangled criminal web with the car crash scam in Los Angeles. Look how that criminal conspiracy metastasized into drugs, crooked cops, other murders, etc. So why not other illegal imports?

And it's an excellent question: How did these guys manage to get their stuff out of Pier One? Someone on the inside had to be helping and that would not have been Kait.

Asked on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 09:12:32 PM
Reply: No, it would not have been Kait. Because, if Kait was part of the operation, there would have been no reason to kill her.

Oriental porn / Pier One

Question: You said, "While Dung was allegedly "visiting Kait," An Quoc Le and the others were all over the shop and loading dock. If heroin was being imported via UPS from the Orient, why not other marketable things as well?"

Now I have to wonder, what type of management did Pier One have, if the staff allowed An Quoc Le and his buddies to wander all over the store & loading dock without being stopped? It makes you wonder how many of the employees were in on this.

Oriental porn is a big market. Underage girls are commonly used for the trade.

porn from the Orient?

Question: I've been reading about this situation on a different web site. There was a post on that site that asked:

"What sort of videos did GO Video rent? Is it possible there was a section that was devoted to Oriental porn?"

I think that's a valid question, considering how frantic Fermin Garcia, the owner and manager of GO Video, got when he read his name was linked to that business. He threatened to have you killed if you didn't remove that post.

Whether Fermin Garcia posted that death threat or one of his three APD sons did, the big question is, why would he and his sons be so upset about his being named as the owner of GO Video?

Asked on Sunday, September 07, 2008 at 02:26:25 PM
Reply: This message board discussion becomes more interesting with every new post. This speculation has merit. We've been told, by one of Kait's co-workers, that heroin was being imported through Pier One Imports, where Kait worked as clothing manager. Kait's boyfriend, Dung Nguyen, and his Vietnamese friends were at that shop every day. While Dung was allegedly "visiting Kait," An Quoc Le and the others were all over the shop and loading dock. If heroin was being imported via UPS from the Orient, why not other marketable things as well?

Anybody who is reading this and ever visited GO Video and can provide information about what people might have been able to rent "under the counter," please either post it here or contact us by private e-mail.

Post Re Tribune Reporter of Albuquerque

Question: There is not such paper called the "Tribune Reporter for Albuquerque" The Albuqueque Tribune stopped operating earlier this year.

Maybe it is another publisher, and the poster got it mixed up.

Asked on Sunday, September 07, 2008 at 11:12:19 AM
Reply: I found the article the poster referred to, and his quotes were accurate. The Garcia brothers professed their love of flashing lights and sirens. One of them stated that he especially enjoyed working graveyard shift in the southeast section of the city, which is the Vietnamese area. He termed it "The War Zone." The article was published in the Albuquerque Tribune. The reason for the poster's confusion is that it was attributed to "Jan Jonas, Tribune Reporter." Someone unfamiliar with Albq. newspapers would naturally assume that that was the name of the paper.

However, the date of publication appears to have been Jan. 30, 2003, not Sept. 2008.

Fermin Garcia and brothers

Question: I found on Google the Tribune Reporter for Albuquerque a write up about Fermin Garcia and his brothers it is dated 9-6-08 i wont type it all but let me at least put a few comments down here that the Garcia brothers said " they said they like nothing better than a car with running lights and sirens "one of them said now get this ( go figure ) he joined the department because its fun' what else am I going to do in Albuquerque where I get paid to have fun".

one of the other brothers is a former undercover narcotics officer and still does some undercover work but he says this " he never thought he wanted to be in narcotics or work undercover , but after his first drug buy he liked the rush"

now hmmmmmmmmm lets see sounds a little bit like they are having to much fun and to much of a power trip with their jobs what do you all think

Asked on Saturday, September 06, 2008 at 07:56:33 PM
Reply: I think there was a typo in your post -- you meant Fermin Garcia's "sons," not his "brothers."

Thank you for finding this article and directing us to it. But where did you find the date on which it was published? It can't possibly have been published in September 2008, because the Tribune folded early this year.

Go Video

Question: Where is this business located? There used to be a video store near Old Town that I am convinced was a front for something less legal. The people associated with the property (if not the store) are lawyers who run in the same circles as John Brennan, Manny Aragon and others whose names have been brought up here. I used to live near this store and anytime I popped in looking for a movie, they never had it -- not only that, it was one of those stores where you had to bring the box up and they'd get the actual movie for you, the woman would never even check. I'd just take a box up and she'd say "no, it's out," or "we don't have that anymore," until I finally got the hint that there weren't actually any movies in the back. (I feel silly that it took me a few times, but I'm pretty naive about stuff like that!).

Asked on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at 10:57:21 AM
Reply: A data search under the name Fermin Garcia yielded information that in 1989
he was the owner and Manager of GO VIDEO (aka GO TV & Video and GO TV
Video Rental) at 670 B. Juan Tabo NE (also listed as 501 A Paisano NE), in a
strip center behind a restaurant at the corner of Juan Tabo and Chico.

That doesn't mean that the business still exists.

your letter to Allison DuBois

Question: How did you word your letter to Allison DuBois to get the producers to be interested in Kait's case? They must receive thousands of letters about cold cases.

Asked on Monday, September 01, 2008 at 01:43:16 PM
Reply: Dear Allison DuBois,

I would like to submit a case for your consideration for your new “Soul Evidence” show.

It meets your criteria:

Our daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, 18, was shot to death in her car in Albuquerque, NM, on July 16, 1989. The death was ruled a homicide. The Albuquerque Police Department dubbed the murder a “random drive-by shooting” and investigated it as such, ignoring a large amount of evidence indicating that Kait was deliberately killed because she was preparing to expose an interstate criminal operation.

In 1991, police arrested three men for “randomly” shooting Kait. Charges were dropped when the state’s “eye witness” turned out to have been incarcerated at the time of the shooting. In 1992, the APD dropped off Kait’s unsolved case. The case is still open, but inactive. Police say they do not ever expect to make further arrests. They’ve washed their hands of it.

However, our family has continued a personal investigation with the help of private investigators, crime scene reconstructionists, forensic experts, etc. for over 16 years. We have accumulated a tremendous amount of new information which police refuse to look at because it does not support their “random shooting” scenario.

Kait’s case might be a particularly good one for your “Soul Evidence” series for several reasons:

1. We have the APD case file, so you won’t have to fight the authorities to get it.

2. We have all the information from our years of personal investigation, organized and documented.

3. Our private investigators will cooperate to the fullest with your researchers and will also be willing to be interviewed on the show.

4. There’s a “peg” that you can hang the story on that will stimulate viewer interest. I am an author, (I write under the name “Lois Duncan”), and HOTEL FOR DOGS, a children’s book I wrote in 1971, has just been filmed by Dreamworks as a major motion picture. It will be released to theaters in January 2009. That silly little book was Kait’s favorite of my stories when she was a little girl. How thrilled she would have been to have seen it on the Big Screen!

Question: I just finished the review - it will show up on my site tomorrow morning.

Also, I think I remember on one of these threads that you were going to get in contact with Allison Dubois to see if she could help you out. Did anything ever happen with that? Or am I thinking of the wrong psychic? Anyway, I might have a tenuous "in" with Allison, so if that's something you're interested, I can see what I can do (or if you've already explored that avenue, I won't bother).

Thanks,

Havs

Question: I certainly will, Lois! I got busy yesterday, but I just sat down to write it now, and so I did another Google search to find this site again. I was planning on linking quite a bit to different areas of the site. :-) And as a part of my review, I always link to the book on Amazon so my readers can click on the link and buy the book right then. I like to offer that as a service to my readers to make it a little easier on them to find the book easily. :-)

And thank you for the quick response - I appreciate it. I meant to say before but forgot to: At the top of each page on the Kait Arquette site, it says, "Who Killed Kair Arquette?" and directly underneath, the tagline says, "Albuquerque teen's 1989 slaying remains unsolved due to police coverup?"

But the other night, when I was looking through each page, I noticed that on the page about The Tallykeeper (here: http://kaitarquette.arquettes.com/talleykeeper.htm) the tagline instead reads, "Personal Info Here - Your Address, Phone Number, or Tag Line" That's something that your web master could very easily fix - they just have to go in and edit it. It'd take about 30 seconds or so. ;-) Anyway, just wanted to point that out so you could pass the info along to the right person.

Thanks again and GOOD LUCK!!!

[From: Hava Lyon]

Question: Hello Lois, I work at the local public library and today, while doing check-in, I saw your book, "Who Killed My Daughter?" Intrigued, I set it off to the side to check it out and bring it home.

I got home from work at 1:00, and decided to read a little before taking a nap. Two hours later, I was still reading - I couldn't put it down! I knew from the book flap that you hadn't solved the mystery yet, but I figured that since the book was so old, that it had been solved after the publication of the book. I desperately wanted to know who did it, but I made myself finish reading the book before going online to do a Google search. (Luckily, I speed-read, so I was able to finish about an hour ago or so).

I quickly jumped online and was THOROUGHLY disappointed to find out that you still haven't solved the mystery!!!! How is that possible?! I was just SHOCKED when I found that out.

Anyway, I write reviews of nonfiction books as a side job for a website called Today.com - you can find my blog here: http://nonfictionlover.today.com I will write a review tomorrow of your book, and post it on Monday. The post will stay at the top of the blog until Friday (when it gets bumped down by a new review) so hopefully new people who hadn't heard of your book will read and get interested in it.

I hope that somehow my very small contribution to the cause will help. I am very excited about the idea of a sequel, and if it does get published, I will be sure to review it prominently on my site.

I just wanted to wish you the absolute best of luck, and just to let you know that I will continue to check back to see if any updates have been made.

Hugs!

Hava

Reply: Thank you, Hava! That would be great!

Please be sure to say that the book is still in print but, because it is no longer new, the best way to obtain a copy is from an online bookstore.

Also, it would be nice if you gave readers the URL of Kait's web site: kaitarquette.arquettes.com. That's like getting two books in one -- the original WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER? and an Internet update that picks up where that book lets off and leads up to the present.
