Question: Will the newest book be available in book form for those of us w/o kindles? I am dying to read it, but unable to afford a kindle. I have been following the story of your daughter for a long time.

Asked on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 12:48:25 PM
Reply: As of now ONE TO THE WOLVES: ON THE TRAIL OF A KILLER, is available only as an e-book to be downloaded onto Kindles, Nooks, etc. However, I'm told that if you go on-line to and visit their ap store, you can download a FREE ap that will allow you to download e-books directly to your computer, skipping the process of buying a Kindle.

Have you considered trying Cold Justice?
Question: I read your book, "Who Killed My Daughter" 17 years ago. I am currently rereading it because my daughter (who would like to join the FBI someday)has recently come to me with an interest in mediums. I gave her a copy of your book. I am a true crime junkie. I watch ID on a daily basis. There is a new show called Cold Justice on TNT. I was wondering if you have ever thought about submitting you case to Cold Justice or any of the true crime shows on ID? I guess like many of your fans, I would really like to see Kait's killers brought to justice.

Reply: Thank you for introducing your daughter to Kait's case. I hope she will also read the sequel, ONE TO THE WOLVES: ON THE TRAIL OF A KILLER, which is now available as an e-book, to be downloaded onto Kindles, Nooks, or other such devices.

I'm afraid Cold Justice is not an option for us. Like most such shows, they won't run a story without the cooperation of the investigative police department. The proposal would have to come from APD, and it will be a cold day in hell before that happens.

"Who Killed My Daughter"
Question: I am a student in high school, at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. I decided to read your book for class, expecting it to be any other nonfiction book, lacking in details and many other book qualities I read in fiction books. But your book has rally touched me. The way you wrote your book really made an imprint on me and got me interested in your story. I could never think of mother going through what you have went trough without your daughter. You and your family have been through so much and I cant imagine how all of your lives have been impacted by her sudden death. Kaitlyn didn't deserve to be assassinated. It just wasn't fair at all. But one day, one day in the future, you and your family will be with her again. She's patiently waiting for you all. I hope you all have a blessed life and Happy Early Birthday to your daughter, Kaitlyn.

Response to post below about suspects
Question: From Kait's Mom: We appreciate your information and have checked it out. Below is what we've been able to document.

Asked on Sunday, September 08, 2013 at 02:09:51 PM
Reply: You've fingered the wrong "Dung Nguyen," (understandable because it's a very common Vietnamese name).

Since 2007, Kait's boyfriend, Dung Ngoc Nguyen, is listed in California, first Santa Clara County and currently in Milpitas CA. with a Jenny N. Nguyen.

The three Hispanic suspects still live in Albuquerque, as you have determined.

Dung's nighttime activities
Question: I was re-reading WKMD? for the umpteenth time, and came across something that jumped out at me -

When Kait's friend Laura (?) and her boyfriend visited her one evening, Dung took off and was gone the rest of the night. Was it ever established what he was doing all night? Suggested possibilities included prostitution or drug dealing.

And did Betty Muench's reading where there was a "fast travel over water" (poorly paraphrased; I don't have the book in front of me) ever interpreted?

Asked on Saturday, September 07, 2013 at 03:24:40 PM
Reply: We never knew where Dung went that night. Or any of the other nights when he was gone from the apartment that he and Kait shared. He just told her he was "out with his friends." That was one reason she started seeing Rod for a movie or coffee. She was lonely.

The reading about traveling "fast over water" has not been verified. We've always assumed it was one of Dung's friends making a fast escape to Vietnam. But that's just a guess.

Question: Juve Escobedo aka Jose Hernandez, Miguel Juan Garcia, and Dennis (Marty) Martinez -

All of them are still in Albuqueruqe, Miguel J Garcia is in jail right now. Yeah and its the same one , i know the names are common. Dennis Martinez has been in and out for years, still had the same big hair till recently.

Asked on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 01:28:57 PM
Reply: What about Juve Escobedo aka Jose Hernandez? We've always been curious about him. I don't think he spent a single night in jail after Kait's murder, though Miguel sat there 18 months. A bench warrant was put out on Juve after he was indicted, and although neighbors kept phoning APD to say that Juve was at his girlfriend's, nobody ever bothered to pick him up. It seemed almost like he was a Golden Boy. Do you know what he's doing now and whether he has ever gotten into any further trouble with the law?

Hi, Ms. Duncan...
Question: I forgot to tell you it was Tezi again...LOL Thanks for the eMail, and consider the questions I asked you done. I will be working on the blog and forum this week.

I am rereading the e-book again. I am taking notes this time.

One question I do have is was Matt Griffin ever questioned about Kait's murder that you know about? It just seems strange to me that exactly one week before Kait is murdered, Griffin was arrested.

Asked on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 04:55:39 PM
Reply: Matt Griffin was never questioned by anyone in authority. Our private investigator, Pat, interviewed him when he was incarcerated in Santa Fe. Attorney Michael Bush (you read about Michael in ONE TO THE WOLVES) also interviewed him there. All Griffin would talk about was how he was innocent of the crimes (bank robbery and murder of a witness) of which he had been convicted. His one mention of Kait was, when he was shown her picture, he said he thought he might have met her somewhere, but didn't remember where -- that he liked young girls and had met a lot of them.

You must remember--Griffin could not have been the shooter, as he was arrested one week before Kait was shot. His friends and colleagues could have shot her, but Matt, himself, could not have been that person.

Both Pat and Michael said Matt looked awful. He was missing teeth and apparently had been badly beaten up by fellow prisoners. As you've seen in the picture I included in ONE TO THE WOLVES, he used to be a very nice looking young man.

Again, another thought provoking book about Kait's murder. Of course, once again, I have more questions.

I have sent you an eMail, and will await your answers.

Once again, a job well done. I am sure Kait is so proud of you!

Curious about Dung
Question: Hi Lois, I remember reading Who Killed My Daughter many years ago and recently purchased the e-book version to read again, which lead me to your most recent e-book. Having just finished it (minutes ago) I\'m curious about what ever happened to Dung and the new girlfriend. Did he indeed sue your for harassment and was the new girlfriend at all worried about his involvement? Have you ever heard from either of them again? My first thought was that if Dung and the girlfriend broke up she may have info that could be valuable. \r\nI recently purchased 6 of your previous books for my sister in law, who is 14. I read your books growing up and wanted to share them with her. Daughters of Eve was always my favorite.\r\nYour family is in my prayers and while I don\'t have any information that can help, I will pass on these 2 books about Kait to anyone willing to read them.\r\n-LG

Reply: We have heard nothing from Dung since 1989, when his boss brought him over to our house to pick up his belongings which we'd cleared out of Kait's apartment when we removed Kait's own belongings. We have never heard directly from his new girlfriend; her only contact has been with our P.I. That's when she threatened to sue us for harassment because we included her and Dung among the recipients of a reward flyer which we'd mailed to hundreds of people. We don't know where they are now, but the girlfriend certainly knows how to contact us if she chooses to reach out to us.

Question: Hello Mrs. Arquette,
I just finished reading One to the Wolves and once again am horrified at what your family has gone through. I admire what you've done to help so many crime victims in New Mexico and elsewhere. I just had one thought about the bullet holes. As I understand it, there were most likely two different guns used, and only small fragments were recovered by the surgeon. Is it possible that the weapon used to kill Kait was loaded with blanks? I remember a case from the 1980s in which a tv actor was killed when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a prop gun (John Erik Hexum). I re-read a lot of the information on your site just now and noted that "When police went to Miguel Garciaís house to arrest him, they confiscated his guns and ammunition. Part of that ammunition consisted of blanks. Kaitís family wonders why anybody would possess blanks for any reason other than to terrorize without causing physical injury?" Oddly enough, blanks can kill a person if the gun is fired within close enough range.

I might be way off base, but I thought I would make this contribution just in case it could help bring justice for your lovely daughter.
Warmest wishes to you all.

Reply: Thank you for your good comment and interesting speculation. However, the shattered window glass seems to provide solid evidence that Kait wasn't killed by blanks.

How can we help?
Question: Lois I just finished One to the Wolves and am incensed all over again. How can we help move this forward? I am a friend of Kerry and Mark's and met you at their wedding. My daughter is Leigh Paddon with whom you email regularly. Phil and I want to help - what can we do? [Kate Weller]

Asked on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 10:47:45 AM
Reply: Kate, thank you for wanting to help us. I don't know what to tell you except that -- as you know from having read ONE TO THE WOLVES -- the more exposure Kait's case gets, the more informants contact us, and the more good people (investigators, reporters, crime scene reconstructionists, etc.) step up to the bat, each with his/her own area of expertise. So the challenge right now is to publicize ONE TO THE WOLVES to the hilt, so the case won't again be swept under the rug.

Please contact everybody on your "friend" list (both FB and personal) and suggest they read it. Suggest it to book reviewers. To bloggers. Talk about it on Face Book and Twitter. It's not easy to publicize an e-book, and word-of-mouth appears to be the best method.

Who Killed My Daughter
Question: This is Sharon again from Canada...I am glad that Rod got in touch with you...I thought he could be helpful but never thought he was involved he Kait's murder...I thought your friend you went to prom with thought the FBI would get involved because of the insurance scam and stuff and that might help find Kait's murder...I myself can not buy an e book so I was wondering if you planned on publishing this book on paper back or is it only going to be available by e book...thank you again for your time and god bless you and your family you are a strong person...thank you for allowing so many people the chance to read your story

Asked on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 08:05:06 PM
Reply: I think my former FBI friend may be one of the reasons why the US Justice Dept. is currently in Albuquerque investigating the Albuquerque Police Dept. But FBI agents don't share information with anyone.

If ONE TO THE WOLVES sells enough copies as an e-book, the publisher may bring it out as a hardcopy. But that won't be anytime soon.

Who Killed My Daughter
Question: Hello I am writing to say that I have read Who Killed My Daughter and it breaks my heart that no one has been convicted of the murder of poor Kait. I hope that one day soon they will find out whom did this horrible crime. Kait's parents deserve to have some peace knowing the persons responsible are routing in jail. I do have two question Did the FBI ever get involved in this crime? Did they ever find Kait's EX boyfriend Rod? My name is Sharon Stone and I live in Vanastra Ontario Canada my email address is Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from someone with an answer to my questions

Asked on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 03:37:28 PM
Reply: The FBI wanted to become involved in the investigation, but since murder is not a federal crime they can only do so if APD invites them in. Which APD has refused to do.

We didn't have to "find" Rod. After reading WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER?, Rod contacted us. We feel certain he was not involved in any way in the murder, but he did have some revelations about things Kait said to him just prior to her death which were meaningful to us.

For a full account of all that happened after WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER? was published, read my new e-book, ONE TO THE WOLVES: ON THE TRAIL OF A KILLER.

Question: Why is the "no blood on the purse" significant? If she was being chased, at presumably high speeds, and then rammed from behind ultimately striking a pole wouldn't her purse have at some point fallen to the floor FROM THE SEAT? If that was the case then it is not strange that it was returned to you with no blood, when she fell to her right after being shot in the head twice by the uniformed police officer- once while she was upright the second shot after she had fallen over which would explain the different angles of the bullet holes and the quick succession of discharge which was heard by locals the purse would be out of the impact area and would not have any material on it. It seems the witness from the wedding party is the one who saw the murderer, even though he did have his head turned to make identification difficult if not impossible, she is still your best lead. Find her, and see if any memory could be uncovered.

Asked on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:35:40 PM
Reply: The floorboards on the passenger's side were blood soaked. EVERYTHING on the right side of the car was blood soaked. If that purse was on the right side of the car, there would have to have been blood on it.

We feel sure that witness told us everything she saw, and if she missed something, she would certainly have forgotten it by now. She glimpsed the scene only fleetingly as her car passed it. She shrugged it off as a traffic accident & remembers thinking, "There's no reason to stop, because the police are already there." It was dark. (She saw Kait's bloody head, because the cop had opened the driver's side door and the light was on in the car.) But she wouldn't have seen the license plate. And the cop had his head turned away, so she never saw his face. Just knows that he was male and in uniform, and a cop car was there as well.
