Kait's 38th Birthday

Question: Kait, your parents and sisters and brothers, who love you so much, reach out to each other and join hands tonight, on your 38th birthday. We live in different parts of the country, but each of us has lit a candle for you tonight and has sung "Happy Birthday." Because it WAS a happy birthday! Having you come into our lives on September 18, 1970, was one of the most incredible things that ever happened. We are so glad we had you, even for a short time.

Love,
Mother, Daddy, Robin, Kerry, Brett and Donnie

Thoughts to you.

Question: I just wanted to say how very sorry I am for the tragic lose of your daughter. My cousins' murder case is still unsolved also. He went misses for 8 months. We had several readings done. Always about how he would be found, that 3 people were involved and many years later would be found. They found him exactly how the reading stated. But as of now, the people that killed him have not been found. They did a show about him on unsolved mysteries. That has been almost 16 yrs ago. As for your daughter, I do believe that the police are somehow involved, or should I say...someone with connections that can erase traces back to them. Have you had anymore new information given from pshyic readings? I know one of the readings said it will be revealed. Do you think your any closer to finding out who is responsible? I believe once you find out the main trigger man, you will have a number of people that are connected in one way or the other. I will continue to follow this case and I hope that it will be solved soon.

God Bless you!

Reply: I'm so sorry about your cousin. I know all too well to have a case go "cold" and to know that no further investigation is taking place.

We're no longer seeking information from psychics. I think we learned all that we're going to get that way. What we need now is information from people with personal knowledge of what happened and why.

Like you, I believe that when we have identified the triggermen, (more than one, because two guns were used), we can link them to the people involved in the cover-up and the whole thing will unravel.

Desert Castle

Question: You never answered the question if you ever found the Desert Castle. If you know where it is, will you disclose it in the Talley Keeper or in the movie?
Do you know who the politician was who was at the Desert Castle?

Asked on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 04:39:50 PM
Reply: There appear to be such a glut of "Desert Castles" in the Albuquerque area that I doubt that we ever find out which one Kait visited. One tipster told us, “This is in response to the psychic’s description of the house in the mountains where Kait Arquette saw a VIP buy drugs. I know all about those homes and what they are used for. A man I used to do business with in New Mexico got involved with the Colombian cartel. He purchased a number of homes, some with airstrips. That’s how the cartel laundered money. Some of those homes were mansions worth millions of dollars. Rarely did anyone live in them. Occasionally they would be used for visitors of the cartel or other drug transactions.” Other tipsters have identified an assortment of different mansions in the foothills that were used by VIPs for orgies and drug parties.

As for the politician -- it's the same situation. Too many possibilities. In 2004, an investigative reporter got hold of a buried report that had been prepared by a DPS agent, who was assigned as the state's representative to an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, which included the DEA; FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; the U.S. Attorney's Office; the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department and the state Department of Public Safety. The document detailed drug smuggling and money laundering in New Mexico that spanned twenty years, along with a list of participants that – according to the privileged few who have seen the report – reads like a “Who's Who” of the New Mexico drug underworld, with judges, lawyers, politicians, and prominent businessmen listed right alongside the state's narcotics kingpins. No charges ever had been brought against any of those people, so their names have not been released. The VIP Kait saw could be any one of them, since their drug activities date back to before Kait’s murder.

Question: hi. i'm the one who wrote the message a few days ago asking you if i could do a movie about this.

and i just wanted to say that i know how you feel about "i know what you did last summer" and if i end up doing the movie, i would really do it based on what you want it to be...i would not make it for a hollywood ending. :)

Question: I've read "Who killed my daughter" twice. After I read the book the second time I jumped on the internet, like a lot of other people, to discover the case hadn't been solved. Since then I've followed the case on this site just waiting for that ONE person to say "I have the answer your looking for".
I just read the post about someone wanting to make a movie about Kaits case. I for one hope to see that, it may bring even more light to what really is happening in our police departments, and help solve this case. But only if the TRUTH is seen.

Reply: When WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER? was first published, I was approached by several movie producers who wanted to option it. I turned them down because I was afraid they would distort the story to give it a "Holywood ending." Also, I had a feeling that there would be more to come, and if a movie was made, I wanted ALL the information in it.

I was right on both counts. (1) I've now had the experience of seeing my novel, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, turned into a sensationalized slasher film that had almost nothing to do with the original story. So I know how little control the book author has over a movie based on her work. (2) And more information HAS come forth -- a tremendous amount more. Back when I wrote that book, I knew nothing about the coverup at the crime scene. I didn't even know Paul Apodaca existed. And I certainly didn't know about heroin being imported through Kait's work place.

At this point, I would be open to having a movie made, as long as there was a guarantee that the facts would be accurately presented.

A few questions for Mrs Arquette- continued

Question: 2) Many of the tips and psychic readings indicate that Kait was killed because of \"who she saw,\" and that that person was probably a political figure. Did Kait follow local or state politics very closely? I ask because I assume that, if this was truly the reason she was killed, the person Kait saw would have to be very well-known and recognizable to the public. Most people probably don\'t know what many of their local and state politicians look like. I know I don\'t, even though I do try to follow politics because I think it is important. Have you come any closer to figuring out who Kait saw, if they were political or someone from the police department, or was the whole thing a dead end?
3) Finally, (and I apologize if you answered this before), did you ever locate the Desert Castle?

Sorry for such a lengthy post. I think I will go to the library and pick up a few of my old favorites of your books, as soon as I finish the Madeline L\'Engle book I\'m reading now (guess I never grew out of the Young Adult fiction section!)

Sincerely,
A Reader In Illinois

Asked on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:48:32 AM
Reply: To the best of my knowledge, Kait did not follow politics. However, she did watch television, and certain high profile political figures had their faces all over the news on a regular basis. According to Noreen Renier's reading, this VIP arrived at the party house in the mountains in a limo. That, in itself, would have sparked Kait's interest, as would the way he was greeted and treated. If the man's name didn't leap immediately into her mind, she would have asked somebody about him.

A few questions for Mrs. Arquette

Question: I am a 27 year-old fan of your books from way back. I\'m a true-crime fan who has read \"Who Killed My Daughter\" twice. I always get a vauge feeling of uneasiness whenever I read the book or this website, maybe because of the sadness and injustice of the story. It is almost creepy.
I\'ve never posted here, because I never had anything to say other than that I respect and admire your continued effort for justice (and I love your books!) After reading the last few pages of posts, I did think of a couple of things to bring up.

1) A few pages back, you said that the bullets and shell casing were never found at the crime scene. Apparently the bullet holes indicated two different cailber guns/bullets were used. Were either of these consistant with the size of guns or ammunition commonly carried by police officers? Maybe the larger bullets? A little googling tells me that .40 caliber rounds are becoming the most common. 9mm (about .36 caliber) was the most common before that, and may have been in 1989. Do you have any what kind of guns the APD uses?

(continued in next post)

Asked on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:47:50 AM
Reply: I know almost nothing about guns. The explanation we were given for why the bullets that entered Kait's head were not found in her body was that they must have been very small caliber weapon, like a 22. We were also told by someone in Criminalistics (as well as by others) that the bullet hole in the doorframe of the car was too large to have been made by a 22.

I do know that police officers do not carry 22s. But I have no idea what they did carry in 1989.

So here are the pieces of the puzzle that we have so far:

1. Somebody in a heavy car used the PITT technique (which is taught at police academies) to ram the bumper of Kait's car in the exact spot that would send it out of control and across the median to land on the opposite sidewalk.

2. Somebody fired a shot from a large caliber weapon that struck the door frame of Kait's car. (Question: Did he fire that shot while Kait was driving, in order to intimidate her, and when she kept on going, did he ram her and force her off the road? Or did he ram her off the road and then get out of his car and fire the shot that struck the door frame?)

3. A different individual, with a 22, then shot Kait twice in the head after her car had crossed the road and landed on the sidewalk.

4. At least two individuals involved, probably in separate vehicles. One with a large caliber weapon and one with a 22. Therefore, this was a conspiracy. Were a cop and his snitch working together? Did the cop fire and miss deliberately, because his purpose was simply to scare her into keeping her mouth shut about activities certain members of APD were covering up, but the snitch took the situation seriously and finished her off?

These are just speculations. We're open to other possible scenarios.

Question: Hi. First of all, I really want to tell you how deeply sorry I am of all of this.

I was very moved by this case and you trying to solve it. I wish you the best in this !

Now, I was wondering...I just read the book, and I\'d be really interested in doing a movie on this subject. I realize that this is a painful subject, and I don\'t know how you and your family would feel about seeing this as a movie. But could you please tell me what you think about this ?

Thanks

Question: RE: the idea that Kait was involved with the feds: One lone kid going to the corrupt Albuquerque police--why would anyone be afraid? Why would she be killed, when she might just as easily be the victim of an "accident" in the company of Dung? Or when she might be threatened, or someone like Dung killed as an example to her? (Remember, Dung's death, or the death of one of the other's involved, would not have raised as many eyebrows as the murder of a very young woman who is the daughter of a well-known writer.) It also explains why they would have sent a real assassin to shoot her in the street instead of just having low-level thugs kill her more quietly. (I am thinking here of earlier posts on the board that speculate that a trained police officer or someone with similar training stopped Kait’s car and shot her).

Now here''s the kicker. If she had been recruited as a snitch, it might explain who was with her, the person she met at the mall that turned out to be Rod. FBI or DEA undercover. Maybe that guy was recognized. Or maybe the criminals knew there had to be a snitch and when Kait turned up at the wrong place, they figured they knew who it was. So Kait had to die. It would be interesting to know if an FBI or DEA agent was found dead, went missing, or was assassinated around the time of or closely after Kait’s murder. And maybe the "good man" who knows the answers is a federal agent. For the first time, for me, things start to add up. This also explains why Kait's spirit cried out, "They won't silence me!"

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 05:23:01 PM
Reply: You're right. A picture does seem to be forming.

On Friday evening, Kait and Rod went to an early movie -- "Peter Pan." Then Kait told Rod she had to split because she "had an appointment." Who she would be meeting with at about 9 p.m. on a Friday evening has always been a mystery to us. Then, two days later, she was murdered. Your speculation that she might have been spotted meeting with an FBI or DEA agent is a valid possibility.

Pier One

Question: If Pier One was being used for drug trafficking, I wonder why they still operate here in Albuquerque? One reason could be, that law enforcement officials are in cahoots with the Pier One people. Both of their stores here in Albuquerque have really moved up to a much more upscale merchandise place, than it used to be back in the 70's and 80's.

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 03:14:37 PM
Reply: The Pier One chain would not have been involved in smuggling. If smuggling was, indeed, taking place, it would, most likely, have involved particular individuals at a particular store. Once those individuals were gone, the smuggling would have stopped.

From a reading by psychic Betty Muench: “Pier One itself was not suspect, but there will have been those employed there. Kaitlyn thought she had some allies, but indeed they all bolted on her when she needed them the most.”

Interesting time line

Question: Kait’s co-worker at Pier One finds heroin in box of fans.

That co-worker reports her find to the FBI.

Renae Bunn, manager of Pier One, is fired (why?) and replaced by someone from the main office.

Kait is murdered, so Dung and his friends no longer have an excuse to hang out at Pier One.

Sharon and her boyfriend immediately apply for jobs there.

Asked on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:13:21 AM
Reply: This is a thought provoking post.

To answer your question about why Renae Bunn was fired, allegedly it was for not "keeping the story up to merchandising standards." However, everyone we've talked with who worked there has told us Renae was a perfectionist and the store was very well run. No one believes she was fired for that reason.

So -- following your line of thinking -- why would she be fired for a bogus reason immediately after one of her employees contacts the FBI about finding heroin in the merchandise?

Assuming the FBI contacted Pier One Headquarters, might that have led to the firing of the manager? If so, why?

A few possibilities that occur to me:

1. They suspected the manager of being involved in the interception of the heroin.

2. They did not suspect her personally, but wanted her out of the way so they could replace her with someone from Pier One Headquarters to keep an eye on what was happening at that store.

3. By stating that the manager was not "keeping the store up to merchandising standards," they meant she was doing nothing to prevent the Vietnamese group from hanging out there and having access to the store room and loading dock.

But, if that last was the case, why wasn't KAIT fired? She was the alleged reason those guys were always there. Yet, she remained in her position as the person in charge of imported clothing. She also, in comments to us, expressed her respect for the new manager, Doyle Cawthon. Is it possible the feds were using Kait as a "snitch," to report to them, via Cawthon? If that was the case, it could certainly have led to her death. That's what happens to snitches. And it would explain why the FBI has refused to follow up on any information we've given them or to help us in any way. If Kait was their "snitch," they were responsible for her death.

I'm rambling, I know. Please, consider this brainstorming. The person who posted this message launched me on a new line of thought about previously unconsidered possibilities.

Question: The question of pornography is an interesting one, considering that the Arquettes began unravelling this tangled criminal web with the car crash scam in Los Angeles. Look how that criminal conspiracy metastasized into drugs, crooked cops, other murders, etc. So why not other illegal imports?

And it's an excellent question: How did these guys manage to get their stuff out of Pier One? Someone on the inside had to be helping and that would not have been Kait.

Asked on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 09:12:32 PM

Oriental porn / Pier One

Question: You said, "While Dung was allegedly "visiting Kait," An Quoc Le and the others were all over the shop and loading dock. If heroin was being imported via UPS from the Orient, why not other marketable things as well?"

Now I have to wonder, what type of management did Pier One have, if the staff allowed An Quoc Le and his buddies to wander all over the store & loading dock without being stopped? It makes you wonder how many of the employees were in on this.

Oriental porn is a big market. Underage girls are commonly used for the trade.
