Question: My question is how was "Don't Look Behind You" published in 1990.....and from your book I learned that there's a connection between the book and the evidence but the book was published after her death. I could be wrong this is just research I did over the computer. I have read almost all of the books we have by you in my school library. You are a big HIT!!! I find your books very interesting, and also how you were able to hold Kait after her death when she was a child I'm sure that was very special. Have you had any psychic readings done recently in order to connect with Kait? Did you ever find out about or here from Rod?

Thank You,

Brittany (How old is your granddaughter Brittany?)

Reply: Thank you for liking my books and for being kind enough to tell me so.

"Don't Look Behind You" was published in April of 1989, three months prior to Kait's murder.

I have not consulted a psychic for many years. We went through that phase, and it was helpful, but I think we've gotten all the information that we're going to get that way.

Yes, Rod has been in contact with us, and he occasionally posts on this message board.

My granddaughter, Brittany, is 21.

The "Visit with Lois Duncan" DVD

Question: I am a middle school language arts teacher and ordered your DVD for our class room. As a teacher, it's the best investment I've ever made. Seeing and hearing an author whose books they love being interviewed by her own daughter in her own home, made you come alive to my students as if you were there in the classroom with us. Thank you.

Question: I was looking for the lifetime movie that the network done on your daughter murder. I have been keeping up with this since 1998 and the movie happened before I knew about your story. Because I too did a book report on your books. Alot of them your books were the only one my english teacher could get me to read. I lose my mother three years ago for money. I sorry for being long its taken me this long to talk to you. There is one thing I have to ask is all your children doing well?

Reply: Thank you for this post, and for your personal e-mail as well, which I have received and will respond to. I'm glad you enjoyed my books when you were a teenager. I can't believe that so many of them have stayed in print and are still so popular with young readers today.

In the 20 years since Kait's murder, our surviving children have been through the inevitable ups and downs of life, made much more difficult by the constantly painful question, "What really happened to my sister, and why are the police covering it up?" We raised our children to have total faith in our justice system, and they lost that faith at the same time they lost their little sister. They've had occasional crashes, particularly in regard to health problems, (shock and grief drive immune systems down), but also some amazing triumphs and joys. Don and I are proud of all of them. And we delight in our six terrific grandchildren.

If you want to hear Robin sing, you can hear clips from her recordings of songs for children at www.lullabysongs.net. If you want to see what books Kerry has written, you can go to Amazon.com and call up "Kerry Arquette." Brett's Web site is brett.arquette.us. Donnie is in the process of creating a Web site, so I can't give you that one yet, but I can tell you he's a gifted artist. His gift to me this past Christmas was an incredibly striking etching which is on the shelf above my computer, (I'm looking at it even as I type).

amazing similarities

Question: Hello i am a 7th grader and I am currently reading some of your books amd we are writing a paper comparing them. I truely think it is both amazing and frightening how much your book Don't Look Behind You is similar to your book Who Killed My Daughter. I am also puzzled by the ongoing mystery and I read Who Killed My Daughter as much as I could because anyone else that tried to write a book like that probabley would not succeed but i think combining your experience and writing skills, that book is truely the best book i have ever read. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We will keep you in our prayers

Reply: Thank you for the compliments. I sometimes feel that every step I have traveled since birth was predestined in order to place me in a position to be able to do what I was going to need to do at life's most terrible crisis point:

(Plotting of mysteries) -- the development of an investigative thought process and the ability to make sense out of the senseless

(Years spent constructing YA suspense novels) -- the instinctive ability to utilize ingrained fictional techniques to cause a true story to fall onto the page as if it were a novel

(Enough of an established reputation writing suspense novels about teenage heroine' in life threatening situations) -- to cause a publisher to be willing to publish a book without an ending because I had a ready-made readership of generations of young readers who were now grown up.

Reply: Hang out with her friends; do art projects of all kinds; read; go horseback riding; enjoy her pets, (she had three cats, an aquarium of exotic fish, and a cageful of hamsters that she bred and sold to pet stores); babysit (she loved children); go on family campouts and vacation trips; take classes at the University of New Mexico in addition to her high school classes; and, or course, she worked as manager of imported clothing at Pier One Imports. She didn't just sit around, she was always on the go.

Question: I'm an 8th grade 13 year old who is in the process of reading you book, who killed my daughter.
It is a great book so far and the suspense makes you want to keep reading.
I was just wondering if the case has been solved and how you have been doing?
(:
Even though this tragic event happened a long time ago, i just wanted to send my best wishes to you and your family.
By the way, if Kerry is your other daughters real name, my mom's name is Kerri(:
I just love your story,i guess it's you daughters also in a way. Kait was GORGEOUS! from your book she sounds like she was a very lovely and beautiful person inside and out.

Question: This is the 6th grader again I was wondering what was your reaction to all the coincidences in the case and all of your books?

Asked on Thursday, February 05, 2009 at 04:08:28 PM
Reply: Dear Sixth Grader,

I've thought a lot about how to respond to your question -- I've actually lain awake at night, trying to figure out how to respond, because I don't want you to feel that I am ignoring you. The bottom line is that I feel uncomfortable offering my own spiritual beliefs, acquired over many decades of living, to a child whose parents and pastor may have very different beliefs. I don't have that right, and I don't want that responsibility.

I commend you for asking that question. But it's a question that involves beliefs about predestination, precognition, and other such controversial subjects, that each of us must search to answer on our own.

I Loved your Book

Question: I'm in 6th grade and we were doing non-fiction reports and I saw your book and I loved it! I'm so sorry for your loss and I think it was Her Boyfriend Dung and his allies on your website you showed have a poll to see how did it. And I was wondering what happened to Dung?

Asked on Tuesday, February 03, 2009 at 03:43:27 PM
Reply: A poll is an interesting suggestion, but that would turn this into a game, and it isn't one. At least, not to the people who loved Kait.

When my book came out, Dung moved to the Pacific Northwest. A couple of years later he returned to Albuquerque with a new blond girlfriend named Lisa, who, people have told us, resembled Kait. I don't know whether they are still together or are still in Albuquerque.

"Hi"

Question: Hello! Almost every week my ELA class goes down to the computer lab and checks this website for any new updates. After reading some links on the website I became more interested in the murder, that sadly took place. My ELA teacher had my class make a summary of a artical in the new paper. I began to think Sharon was a "new girl-friend" of Kate. Is it possibal that Sharon was in on the whole thing. I have never meet Sharon, so I have no reason to think that way,but is it possibal? I really do hope you find the killer and find inner peace. I must say Locked In Time was the best book i have ever read. I also must ask what book should i do for a project? What is your favorite book you have writen? Thanks so much! And i will alway be checking the site for more info!

Reply: I'm deeply touched that your class is so interested in Kait's case. Since her students are reading my books, your teacher might be interested in a 35 minute DVD, "A Visit with Lois Duncan." She can view a clip from it at www.loisduncan.arquettes.com/DuncanDVD.htm.

I don't think Sharon was in any way involved in the murder, but I feel certain that she knows things that could help us and is afraid to speak up.

Thank you for liking LOCKED IN TIME. That's one of my personal favorites of my suspense novels. My suggestion for your project would be STRANGER WITH MY FACE, a novel about astral projection. It's currently being filmed as a made-for-TV movie for the Lifetime Channel. Lord knows how the film makers are going to change the story, so I'd like for you to read the book before seeing the movie.

Contact??

Question: I was wondering if you have had any contact with Dung since the death of your daughter? I hope that you will find out who the guilty party is soon, it is a shame that this case has been handled this way. You deserve closure, I know you will find it. Never ever ever give up. P.S. Congratulations on "Hotel for Dogs" I recently saw it and I must say that was a beautiful story. You and your family are in my prayers.

Asked on Sunday, February 01, 2009 at 07:26:49 PM
Reply: We have had no contact with Dung since November 1989, when we called him over to our house to collect possessions of his that were stored in our garage.

Thank you for liking the Hotel for Dogs movie. As always, Hollywood made a lot of changes in the story, but I thought the dog actors were hilarious. I've written a sequel, NEWS FOR DOGS, which will be published in April. It's a sequel to the original book, not to the film script.
