Re:  STOLEN ORGANS

Mon Nov 25 14:38:10 PST 2002: I'm the mother of a murdered daughter (case still unsolved) and that's bad enough, but to belately discover that your child's organs and brain were secretly stolen by the people who did the autopsy is beyond horrible. How many people has this happened to who haven't found out about it? For all I know it might have been done to my daughter. Gregg's parents only found out because they had his body exhumed for a second autopsy. Is this a common practice? What do medical investigators do with the stolen organs? Sell them to medical schools?

Response:  In Minnesota it is illegal to remove the organs, in fact it is illegal. We do not know if they were removed at the autopsy or exactly who took about one third of our son. There were four agencies that had access to Gregg's body after being taken from our home:  (1) Clay County Sheriff's Dept. Detective Bryan Green;  (2) Hawley PD Officer Thomas Taylor; (3) Ramsey County Medical Center in St Paul, MN, Dr. Michael McGee pathologist;  (4) Vigen Wright Funeral Home, which we have checked with and have decided that the funeral home would have no reason to do this.  We would never have known about this if we hadn't had another autopsy. It could be common practice, since 99.9% of bodies are not exhumed for reautopsy.
